Early Life and Marriage

Kamala Nehru (née Kaul) was born on August 1, 1899, in Delhi, India. She married Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, in 1916. Kamala was a shy and reserved person before her marriage but later became a prominent social reformer.

Entry into the Freedom Struggle

Kamala Nehru entered the Indian independence struggle in 1921 during the Non-Cooperation Movement. She participated in protests and demonstrations, and her husband's arrest in 1922 further motivated her.

Speech on Nehru's Behalf

When Jawaharlal Nehru was arrested in 1928 to prevent him from delivering a seditious speech, Kamala stepped in and delivered the speech on his behalf. This act showcased her courage and determination.

Later Life and Legacy

Kamala Nehru remained an active member of the All India Women's Conference and worked towards the upliftment of women in India. She died on February 28, 1936, after a prolonged illness. Kamala Nehru is remembered as a fearless and dedicated freedom fighter who played a vital role in India's independence movement.
